Expensive NFT

Expensive NFT

Non-fungible tokens, commonly called NFTs, became one of the most discussed technology trends during the cryptocurrency boom of 2021 and 2022. Digital artworks that could previously be copied freely online were suddenly selling for millions of dollars through blockchain-based marketplaces. Musicians, athletes, actors and other celebrities joined the trend by purchasing NFTs, creating collections and using digital characters as profile pictures. Unlike regular cryptocurrencies, NFTs are not necessarily interchangeable. Each token can have its own identity, ownership record and market value. Buying an NFT normally gives the buyer control of the blockchain token. It does not automatically transfer the copyright or commercial rights to the associated artwork.

 Most Expensive NFT Ever Sold.

The Merge, created by the digital artist known as Pak, generated approximately $91.8 million during a sale on Nifty Gateway in December 2021. However, it was not purchased by one person as a conventional single artwork. Almost 29,000 collectors bought units called “mass,” which could combine inside buyers’ wallets. For this reason, The Merge is often described as the highest-value NFT artwork sale, but it should not be presented as a single NFT bought by one collector for $91.8 million according to contemporary reporting based on information from Nifty Gateway. The Most Expensive Single NFT Sale

Beeple’s Everydays: The First 5000 Days is widely recognized as the most expensive single NFT artwork sold to one buyer through a major public auction. Beeple, whose real name is Mike Winkelmann, created one digital artwork every day for 5,000 consecutive days. He combined the images into a large digital collage. On March 11, 2021, Christie’s sold the NFT for exactly $69,346,250, including the buyer’s premium. The purchaser was cryptocurrency entrepreneur Vignesh Sundaresan, also known by the name MetaKovan. The sale was historically significant because it was the first purely digital NFT-based artwork offered by a major auction house. It also placed Beeple among the most valuable living artists at auction at that time. Christie’s official sale result.

Other Record-Breaking NFT Sales.

i.Clock is a dynamic NFT created by Pak in collaboration with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. It displayed the number of days Assange had spent in prison. In February 2022, AssangeDAO purchased the NFT for 16,593 Ether, worth approximately $52.8 million at the time. AssangeDAO was a group of more than 10,000 supporters who pooled funds to purchase the artwork. Proceeds were intended to support Assange’s legal defence and related campaigning. ii.Beeple’s HUMAN ONE combined a physical video sculpture with a corresponding dynamic NFT. The work displayed a digital human walking through changing environments. Beeple retained the ability to update the visual content remotely, allowing the artwork to continue evolving. It sold for $28,985,000 at Christie’s in November 2021. Swiss entrepreneur Ryan Zurrer purchased it. Christie’s official HUMAN ONE listing.Because HUMAN ONE includes both a physical sculpture and an NFT, it differs from a completely digital NFT sale.

iii. CryptoPunk #5822 — approximately $23.7 million

CryptoPunk #5822 is one of only nine alien characters in the original collection of 10,000 CryptoPunks. Celebrities Who Publicly Bought or Collected NFTs

1. Rapper Eminem acquired Bored Ape Yacht Club #9055 in December 2021. The NFT was purchased through an OpenSea account called Shady_Holdings for 123.45 Ether, valued at approximately $450,000–$462,000 at the time. The ape wears a military-style cap and has a facial expression that some observers compared with Eminem’s appearance. He later used it as a social-media profile picture. An Africa Check investigation verified that the NFT came from the official Bored Ape Yacht Club collection and was not a fake token. Africa Check’s verification.

2. Justin Bieber became publicly associated with several NFTs, including two Bored Apes. His most widely reported purchase was Bored Ape Yacht Club #3001, acquired for 500 Ether, worth approximately $1.3 million at the time. However, reporting later raised questions about whether Bieber personally funded the transaction or whether an intermediary arranged it as part of a celebrity NFT promotion. This makes it important to distinguish between an NFT appearing in a celebrity-associated wallet and proof that the celebrity personally paid for it.
